How to Choose the Right House Plan For You

Our popular Willow Branch community has buildable lots available now and has a new phase opening soon, so if you’re interested in homes in Chelsea AL, make sure you contact us. We offer a wide range of home designs, and while that can be daunting at first, there are ways to help you choose the home design that is right for you and your family.

The first thing to think about is your family’s lifestyle and how the layout of your home will fit into that. The flow and overall layout is one of the biggest issues in whether you truly feel comfortable in a home.

It’s important to think about your family and their ages. Families with younger children tend to prefer a home where the bedrooms are grouped together for everyone’s comfort and peace of mind. However, when it comes to teenagers, having rooms spread out may be more appealing. For example, with young children, a home design where all of the bedrooms are on the upstairs level, in a more traditional format may work better. For older kids and teens, you may be interested in a home where the owner’s suite is on the first floor and the kids have the bedrooms upstairs.

Of course, there are plenty of reasons to choose a single-story ranch home, especially if there are any accessibility issues or if you’re moving toward the empty nest stage and don’t want to deal with all of those stairs. Ranch-style homes can be much more convenient on a daily basis especially in terms of maintenance. If you prefer a single story home, you may want to choose one where the owner’s suite is on one side of the home and the bulk of the bedrooms are on the other side, unless you have particularly young children.

As you look at the floor plans, imagine walking through the home as you would if you lived there. Is there somewhere to hang up a coat or store shoes when you first come inside? If you choose an open plan, is there somewhere you can imagine putting your Christmas tree? Does the layout feel open enough or is it a little too close for comfort with the living room, dining area and kitchen all seeming to run together? It helps to look for open-plan homes that offer some sort of visual definition, as well as enough space to move around comfortably.

Finally, don’t forget about the outdoor area. Do you like to entertain? You may want to focus on a covered back patio to beat some of the Alabama summer heat. Perhaps you want a swimming pool. Is there enough room and level ground for it and is it allowed by the Homeowners Association? If you have young children, you may be more focused on creating various play areas for them in the safety of the backyard, combining play houses and plenty of open lawn for a range of sports.

The key is to think about how your family lives and what you really need in a home. Do you like the airyness of open plans or do you prefer more definition in which each room is more clearly defined? Keep in mind the need for things like a home office or home gym or media/game room. Does the floor plan have bonus rooms that can serve these purposes? Fortunately, when you explore the variety of homes in Chelsea AL that Scotch Homes has to offer, you’re sure to find a plan that is the perfect fit for your family’s lifestyle. Client Testimonials

We had a wonderful experience having our home built by Wayne Scotch and the Scotch Homes Team. They were very patient in helping us get ready to start the project and even helped us find the perfect location. He was always available to help us through each step and to explain everything. Wayne's wife, Stefani, works hard behind the scenes to make sure that orders are placed and deadlines are met. She is also available to answer questions and to make recommendations! We felt that our house was always of the utmost importance to Wayne and his team! Now that the house is finished, we are so glad that we had Scotch Homes do the building. The quality and workmanship in our home is very obvious. Wayne and the entire Scotch Homes team are extremely honest, caring people and their Christian concern is a huge part of their business. There could not be a better company or a better builder anywhere than Scotch Homes. We recommend them highly and we are very grateful that we found them!Jim and Maria Brandt
After living in the same home for 28+ years, we decided to build a home. We feel so fortunate to have contracted with Scotch Homes and Land Development for the project. Scotch Homes listened to what we wanted in our new home, provided house plans that met our needs and made wonderful suggestions throughout the building process. We were amazed at the progress each day when we visited the construction site. Scotch Homes constructed a quality built home that we love, in a very convenient location on a great lot! Their team provided us with contacts for selections of our lighting, flooring, etc, emailed me when selections were due, and provided a valued opinion about selections when I asked for her help. Not only are we thankful that Scotch Homes built our home, we also are blessed to now call them our friends.

From the moment we met with Scotch Homes, they listened to all the different things we wanted to include into our new home. They discussed every step. The budgets we had for brick, lighting , flooring and even the landscaping were generous enough that I could stay in budget and not go over.

Besides being a great builder Scotch Homes is a great company that takes pride in their work. I recommend Scotch Homes to everyone I meet. If you have thought about building a home with Scotch Homes ,I promise, you will have a wonderful time!
